About the role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Kaihaapai (Health Promotor) to join our team at Whaioro Trust a Kaupapa Māori mental health and addictions organisation. As a Kaihaapai, you will play a crucial role in promoting gambling harm reduction for our rangatahi/youth and local community through the provision of innovative and impactful Kaupapa Māori health promotion initiatives. This full-time position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of whanau.
What you'll be doing
- Developing and implementing comprehensive Māori health promotion strategies and campaigns to address the unique needs of rangatahi/youth and local community
- Collaborating with key stakeholders, healthcare providers, local authorities and schools, to deliver effective health promotion initiatives
- Organising and facilitating educational workshops, seminars, and community events to raise awareness and empower rangatahi/youth and other community members
- Monitoring and evaluating the impact of health promotion activities, and continuously improving based on feedback and data
- Providing expert advice and guidance to community members on a wide range of health-related topics
- Maintaining accurate records and reporting on the progress and outcomes of health promotion initiatives
What we're looking for
- Relevant tertiary qualification in a field such as health promotion, public health, or community development
- Significant experience in designing and delivering successful Kaupapa Māori health promotion programs within a community setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences
- Proficient in administrative reporting, planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion initiatives
- Passion for improving health outcomes and promoting the wellbeing of rangatahi/youth and the local community
- Familiarity with relevant Māori health promotion frameworks and best practices
